KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Labour and Human Resources Ghulam Murtaza Baloch has asked all stakeholders to come forward to eradicate child labour in Sindh because child labour is harmful to the intellectual and physical growth of the child.
He urged this while talking to a delegation of UNICEF here in his office on Thursday. UNICEF Chief of Field Office Cristino Brugiolo, Secretary Labour Rasheed Ahmed Solangi, Director Labour Saeed Suleh, Dr Jabeen Fatima Child Protection Officer UNICEF Sindh and other officers were also present on the occasion.
Ghulam Murtaza Baloch said that his Department was going to conduct a survey on Child Labour and Sindh would be the first province in Pakistan to conduct such survey and in this regard, UNICEF would provide technical and consultative support to get the objective.
The Provincial Minister said, “Our political leadership has clear vision to provide best health, education and other care facilities to labourers and their families as well to enhance their living standard, while we are taking all possible measures to implement labour laws to discourage child labour in Sindh.”
Secretary Labour Rasheed Ahmed Solangi briefed the delegation regarding steps taken by Labour Department Sindh to make Sindh a model province in Pakistan ensuring it child labour free province.
Murtaza Baloch suggested holding seminars in backward areas to create awareness on child labour and to motivate parents to send their children to schools for their better future.
He expressed his hope that till December the survey on Child Labour would be completed and told that in certain medical and engineering colleges a certain number of labour class children were getting free of cost education. It was also decided in the meeting that beside Karachi, awareness seminars would also be held in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas as well.
