KARACHI: The house and postgraduate doctors at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Karachi resumed their protest over non-payment of stipends for several months.
The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with different slogans. Some doctors forcibly got closed the OPD door. Later, the protesting doctors blocked the main entrance of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and chanted slogans against Mayor Karachi and other authorities of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
The protesters said house officer and PGs have not been paid salaries/stipends for several months. They informed that more 300-house officer working in hospital three shifts have been deprived of stipend for four months and PGs for eight months. The doctors boycotted outpatient departments (OPDs). However, emergency and different departments remained operational as per schedule.
Medical Superintendent, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Dr Nadeem Rajput, while talking to PPI, said one-month stipend of 93 doctors had already deposited in their bank accounts and others will get their salaries soon.
The protest of doctors which started on March 18 is yet to be ended.
