Teachers from across Punjab gathered outside the provincial assembly. While demanding regularisation, the protesting teachers have termed condition of 15-day training before promotion as unacceptable.
Teachers vowed to continue the protest at Charing Cross on Mall Road until the fulfilment of their demands. They also raised anti-government slogans and placards.
Reacting to the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) condition regarding 15 days training of teachers, the protestors clearly stated that they will only adopt ‘policy of protest’ instead of going for training.
Teachers demanded government for promotions, regularization of ad hoc teachers, pay protection and restoration of service structure. They also demanded the government to implement five-tier promotion structure like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
Protestors heavily affected the flow of traffic which irked the citizens into vexing out at them at Mall Road and its adjoining areas.
It was informed that teachers’ other motives behind this protest is to target a specific group by winning their sympathy at the annual meeting of Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) next month.
