Maryam vows to stand outside jail until doctors granted access to Nawaz

–PML-N misleading people about Nawaz’s health, reacts Gill

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz has vowed to stand outside Kot Lakhpat jail until doctors are granted access to treat her father, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who is serving a seven-year term in a corruption reference.

Maryam, in a Twitter post on Friday, said Nawaz’s kidney disease is at stage three and doctors suspect the pain to be of renal origin.

“His Urea & Creatinine levels MUST be checked. His doctor who I sent to examine MNS was made to wait 2 hrs outside jail, was not allowed in & sent back,” she wrote. “If his renal functions are not checked for any further deterioration & if his doctor & I are not allowed access to him, I will go and stand outside the jail tomorrow till the access is granted.”

The former first daughter further tweeted a picture of the written request sent to the Home Department for Nawaz’s doctor to be granted access to him.

Reacting to Maryam’s call, Punjab Chief Minister’s Spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill has claimed that the PML-N was doing politics on the issue of former prime minister Nawaz’s health.

In a video message, Gill said, “Politicising the 23rd March and threatening to stage sit-in is unfathomable… Maryam Nawaz intends to get political mileage by lying on the health of her father. She should not violate the sanctity of Pakistan Day and people should not be misled through the politics.”

Gill, while reacting to Maryam’s tweet, said doctors have checked the blood pressure of Nawaz Sharif in jail which was 90/140. He maintained that the former premier was fit as he “ate eggs, aalo gosht, and rice, and walked as per his routine.”

Nawaz complained to the jail doctor on Thursday about toothache and a senior dental surgeon treated him in the jail the next day, the government spokesperson said, adding that if Nawaz has any complication then he can get himself treated in any hospital which was offered to him earlier.

Gill reiterated that Nawaz has not shared his kidney pain with jail officials and doctors. He said that jail doctors requested him for blood samples and urine tests to which the former prime minister complied.

“The blood and urine samples have been sent to the lab as per jail SOPs… If Maryam Nawaz wants to stage the sit-in outside the jail then she can do it at her will. The government will provide a tent, water, and other facilities. However, she should realise that her brothers Hassan and Hussain would not be in the sit-in but I will definitely reach there to provide facilities,” Gill concluded.

On Thursday, Maryam after meeting her incarcerated father at the Kot Lakhpat jail had said he remains unwell with continuous angina.

A day earlier, the former premier’s daughter had said that he would not be able to receive any visitors owing to his ill condition.

Nawaz has been in jail since December 2018 following his conviction in Al-Azizia corruption reference in line with the Supreme Court’s July 2017 verdict.
