Political parties urged to abstain from politicising plantation campaign

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Musarat Jamshaid on Thursday said that the government is strictly concerned about environmental degradation and urged the political parties to abstain from politicising the ‘Plant for Punjab’ campaign.

He said this while addressing a ceremony held by Punjab Forest Department at Lahore’s Jallo Park on account of World Forest Day on Thursday.

Lahore Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tauqeer Haider Butt, Additional Deputy Commissioner for Revenue (ADCR) Awais Malik, Punjabi poet Babar Naqvi, columnist Qayyum Nizami, actor Rashid Mehmood, PTI leader Jamshaid Cheema also attended the ceremony and spoke on the event.

Lahore ADC Tauqeer Butt said, “We are fully committed to government’s initiative of ‘Green and Clean Pakistan’ and we urge the people to act as ambassadors of this initiative and start planting trees.”

Rashid Mehmood said that development in the name of deforestation is useless. It is now time for the people to take steps to secure the environment, he added. He also praised the provincial government’s efforts for improving the environment. “Government’s dedication to the ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ campaign is evident through the steps already taken by the administration,” he said.

Other speakers also asked the people to accept responsibility for the protection of the environment and urged them to plant as many trees as possible. The ceremony was attended by people from different government departments.

Later, while speaking exclusively to Pakistan Today, ADC Butt lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Imran Khan and said that the administration is extending its full support to the government in order to ensure a better Pakistan for the next generation.
