Unpaid doctors protest, boycott OPD at ASH

KARACHI: House Officers of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) on Monday staged a protest demonstration outside the Medical Superintendent’s office and also boycotted OPDs in protest against non-payment of their three-month stipend.

The protesters were carrying banners and placard inscribed with different slogans. They chanted slogans against Mayor Karachi, MS Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and other authorities KMC. The hospital’s OPDs were partially closed due to the protest.

Over 100 house officers working in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in three shifts have not been paid their stipends for three months. The protesting doctors said different pretexts were given when they asked about their salaries.

Senior Director, Medical & Health Services Department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Dr Birbal Genani Dr Birbal Genani, while talking to PPI, said necessary directives have already been issued to medical superintendent Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for early provision of stipend to house officer working in this health facility.

He informed that issue of house officers’ stipend would be resolved soon.
