PM orders ‘eco-friendly measures’ for Karachi development projects

KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday stressed the need for joint efforts by the federal and Sindh governments for timely completion of development projects in the port city.

Addressing a meeting here, PM Imran said, “We want to resolve public issues in Karachi and Sindh through [early completion] of development projects.”

He added that the federal government will provide maximum assistance to the provincial authorities for resolution of issues of its citizens.

“It is necessary for federation and provincial government to coordinate with each other for the projects,” he added.

The premier was briefed over the progress of Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System while he also reviewed other development projects and Karachi package.

PM Khan issued special directives to protect green areas in Karachi.

He said that long-term planning was needed to control issues of growing population, environmental challenges and climate change effects on the metropolis.

Federal authorities have been urged to pay utmost attention while planning and completing development projects in major cities like Karachi across the province.

On October 13 last year, Prime Minister Imran Khan had formally launched the ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ campaign in Islamabad, promising 10 billion trees countrywide in next five years.

The decision to launch a cleanliness drive across the country was taken during a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) presided over by the prime minister in September.

Meanwhile, President Dr Arif Alvi had also appealed to the nation to extend full cooperation in realising the cherished goal of ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ campaign.

He urged leaders of all political parties and chief ministers of all provinces to play an active role in the ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ drive inaugurated by the prime minister to create a healthy and hygienic environment for the people, safe disposal of solid and liquid waste, sanitation and hygiene.
