ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi has invited parliamentary leaders on March 28, to hold consultations over the Nation Action Plan (NAP) and other national security affairs.
In a letter to leaders of various parliamentary parties, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stalwart stated that “I would like to invite parliamentary leaders of all the political parties on March 28, 2019, at 1600 hours to underscore our continued commitment to the speedy implementation of NAP. This implementation is clearly in the long-term interest of the people of Pakistan”.
He asserted that NAP – which was formulated in the aftermath of the deadly 2014 Army Public Sschool attack – “was the result of national consensus following the recommendations of all political parties”.
Qureshi further wrote that NAP is intended to combat the monster of terrorism and to not let militant groups use Pakistani soil to execute terrorist activities against other countries.
The responsibility of implementation of United Nations’ restrictions is also an important part of the plan, Qureshi wrote while concluding the letter.
Qureshi, while addressing the Business Leaders’ Summit in Islamabad last week, said that government will sit with the opposition to draft a counter-terrorism plan.
“The government will take the opposition on board to draft a plan of action to eliminate terrorism. We will move forward with the national consensus,” he had said.
The foreign minister had asserted that “once the Prime Minister Imran Khan approves, he will write letters to the leaders of all the parliamentary parties, including Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chair Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shahbaz Sharif, to seek their input”.
