LAHORE: National Assembly Opposition Leader and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif claimed on Saturday that he did not take a single day’s salary during his ten-year-long tenure as Punjab chief minister.

The former provincial minister was speaking to reporters outside the accountability court in Lahore. When questioned on his brother and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s health, he asserted that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is not taking his health issues seriously.

The incarcerated former prime minister is serving his jail term in the Al-Aziza Steel Mills case at Kot Lakhpat prison.

Shehbaz told reporters that Nawaz is still recovering from open heart surgery that he had a year and a half ago. He is ill but they are not paying heed to it, he said.

He threatened that the PTI government will be held responsible if anything happens to Nawaz.

When questioned about the recent bill raising the privileges and salaries of MPAs that was unanimously passed by the Punjab Assembly, Shehbaz said that he never took any allowances while he was in power.

He said it was “beyond my understanding” how the Punjab Assembly could pass such legislation. I did not use any government money for my health expenses and used my private car to commute, he said.
