Quetta Gladiators bowler Fawad Ahmed will undergo a gum surgery as he was smashed in the face by a returning straight drive from Imamul Haq in the qualifier match against Peshawar Zalmi on Wednesday.

Gladiators qualified for the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the third time in four years after beating Peshawar Zalmi by 10 runs in front of a packed National Stadium Karachi crowd. Their victory, however, was somewhat marred by Fawad’s injury as he had to be taken to a hospital for treatment after losing his front tooth.

The Pakistan-born Australian cricketer will be implanted with a new tooth and is expected to recover in time for the final on March 17.

“Fawad is to undergo gum surgery around his front teeth. He lost his tooth last night (new tooth being implanted). @TeamQuetta is confident that he will play the final on March 17,” ESPNcricinfo journalist Umar Farooq Kalson tweeted.
