NAUNDERO: Sugarcane growers of Kambar-Shahdadkot, Larkana, Khairpur districts held a protest demonstration against Naundero Sugar Mill here on Monday for not paying their outstanding dues of Rs 14 million for last three years.

The growers Ghulam Qadir Shah, Ismail Jamali, Pir Ahsan Rashdi, Hayat Brohi, Nazir Jamali, Aijaz Kertio and others held demonstration in the protest camp which they have established in front of the mill’s main gate whereas Shaheri Action Committee leader Ghulam Hyder Narejo, PTI’s Javed Bhutto, JUI’s Abdul Salam Dharejo and other civil society members joined their protest and expressed their solidarity with the agitating tillers.

The protesters were holding placards in their hands and chanting slogans against the sugar mill authorities. While talking to newsmen, the peasants said that since past nine days, they had constantly been agitating round the clock while sitting in the camp even in the rain and sizzling cold, but it seemed that Sindh government had become silent because they had taken no notice of their sufferings so far.

They hoped that their protest in the hometown of martyred Bhutto leaders would produce fruit results and their dues would be cleared but their voice had not so far been heard by the rulers sitting in the corridors of power because of the sacrifices rendered by Bhuttos.

They said that their dues were not being cleared since 2017 by Naundero Sugar Mill authorities which could only be termed highhandedness. They said mill authorities had closed doors for them, adding they were not protesting for charity but demanding their rightful dues and there seemed nobody to listen to their complaints and grievances.

They demanded immediate payment of Rs 14 million or else, they warned, they will stage a big sit-in on 14th March on Municipal roundabout which will also be participated by growers of Kambar-Shahdadkot, Larkana, Khairpur districts and other areas and then a large rally will be taken out which, after marching through various roads, will reach the sugar mill where a massive protest will be held.
