–Armed men shut down CAA canteen, lock staffers inside

–They also ripped apart the CCTV system and took it with them

All tall claims of strict security arrangements fell short on Sunday when armed men broke into the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) canteen at Islamabad International Airport and locked the staffers inside it, a local news outlet reported.

Reportedly, 12 men led by a former contractor for the canteen broke into the canteen and rounded up the manager and the security guards. Those present inside for food were kicked out and the canteen was then locked.

The news outlet quoted the former contractor as saying that he was the one who built the canteen and had been running it for several months until CAA issued a tender for it and awarded it to a private firm. The owner of the private firm was a government servant, the former contractor added.

Upon hearing about the incident, CAA authorities rushed to the scene and freed the locked staffers. They also discovered that the armed assailants had ripped apart the CCTV system and had taken it with them.

Islamabad Police is currently looking into the incident.
