KARACHI: Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda on Saturday requested the Sindh High Court (SHC) to dismiss a petition filed by National Assembly Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif in which he challenged the results of NA-249, Karachi.

Vawda submitted his response through a citizen, Hasnain Ali Chohan, stating that Shehbaz’s petition was not maintainable as it bore fake signature of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president.

He requested the court to dismiss the petition.

After his defeat on NA-249 seat in the July 2018 general elections, the PML-N president moved the petition in the high court challenging the victory of his rival candidate.

He had stated before the court that there were massive irregularities in the election process in the constituency. “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Faisal Vawda only won from NA-249 owing to irregularities in the vote count process,” he argued.

Faisal Vawda won the election against the PML-N leader from the National Assembly constituency in Karachi by securing 35,344 votes against 34,626 votes of his rival.
