PM orders Punjab govt to construct more shelter homes

–PM discusses provincial matters in separate meetings with Punjab CM, governor

–CM Buzdar directed to provide relief to people as priority

–Sarwar apprises premier over plans to hold guided tours of Governor House

LAHORE: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday directed officials to increase shelter homes for the poor in Punjab.

During a meeting, PM Imran was briefed that work on five more shelter homes was underway. Construction of three of the shelter homes will be completed in April, while two of them will be ready by May, the officials told the meeting.

The Lahore commissioner informed the meeting that shelter homes would be supervised by a governing body comprising philanthropists.

A meeting member also proposed that philanthropists must also contribute their share in the project as well as supervising it.

The premier asked officials to take every possible step for the construction of more homeless shelters.

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had initially planned five shelter homes in different cities of Punjab under the project.

The shelter home project is aimed at housing a number of homeless people who usually spend nights on footpaths or other places in different areas of Lahore city.

The PM maintained that on his recent visit to China, he expressed his desire to learn from the neighbouring country about their poverty alleviation measures and will implement a similar plan in Pakistan.

The government, on September 11, had also announced to introduce a special programme for street children to educate them and bring them into the mainstream.

The PM arrived in Lahore on Saturday and held one-to-one meetings with Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and Governor Chaudhry Sarwar.

The Punjab chief minister briefed the premier over the matters of the province following which the latter directed to give priority to steps aimed at providing relief to the public.

GOVERNOR HOUSE:

The premier also met Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar. During the meeting, it was decided that guided tours would be arranged for visitors of the Governor House.

A decision was taken to open the interior wing of the Governor House for the general public and appoint tourist guides for providing information about the history of the building.

It has been agreed that every week, two days would be dedicated for arranging the tour in which the citizens would get access to the buildings of the palatial governor house.

The Punjab governor apprised PM regarding the clean water projects, and matters pertaining to the public universities. Several provincial matters were also discussed during their meeting.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is scheduled to launch the Punjab enrollment policy.

PM Imran chaired a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat during which he reviewed the performance of provincial ministers.

During the meeting, officials of the Punjab government briefed him on important matters.
