Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Friday said the security situation would have been different in Pakistan had the National Action Plan (NAP) been implemented timely.
While talking to BBC’s Urdu service, the PPP chief observed that Indian claims would not have any basis if the Pakistani government had followed the anti-terrorism plan according to its spirit.
Earlier, a security crisis had arisen between arch-rivals Pakistan and India following a terror attack in Indian-occupied-Kashmir (IoK), which claimed 44 Indian soldiers. Keeping to its tradition, the Indian government jumped the gun and blamed Pakistan for harbouring militants behind the incident.
Referring towards the political engineering, Bilawal said that “from Ayub’s era to Zia’s – it has been a trend in Pakistan to suppress the popularity of PPP”.
“[You see] 1990 general elections is an epitome,” he recalled.
While stressing upon the need for a non-political accountability process, Bilawal said that the law should treat everyone equally.
He also noted that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was born under the doctrine of necessity and to “pressurise political parties”.
“If the rule of law was imposed, the fuss [we see] today would not have happened. [It would be] better if it [accountability] is done once and for all,” he added.
