Here is what we know about captured Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman

Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured by Pakistan on Wednesday after Pakistan Air Force shot down his MiG-21 fighter jet, is a skilled soldier who was known as the ‘Veerappan of his course’ among his batchmates. [Veerappan was an Indian outlaw who had similar mustache and sideburns].

In other words, he was so hardworking and skilled that he outshined all his course mates during training. He is an avid reader and is also known for his exceptional speaking skills.

In this picture, the Indian pilot can be seen with his wife and son. His wife is a retired squadron leader of the Indian Air Force as well.
The caption with the picture claims that he is a fan of MiG-21 plane, the same one he was flying when it was shot down by PAF. In fact, he knew the said plane so much that he gave a hard to time to his instructors and Tyagi [probably, a reference to Shashindra Pal Tyagi who served as Chief of Air Staff of the Indian Air Force from 31 December 2004 to 31 March 2007].

After the emergence of this new information, social media users on multiple platforms have opined that there are good and hardworking people with families on both sides of the border and war would be a tragedy.
