The Indian government Monday sent show-cause notices to 13 news channels for broadcasting Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor’s media briefing on February 22, in the wake of Pulwama attack – in which 44 Indian soldiers lost their lives.
In the aftermath of the attack, the Indian Information Ministry barred the television channels from airing “any content that might incite violence, affect law and order, promote anti-national attitude and affect the integrity of the nation”.
According to The Quint, the notices, sent to Tiranga TV by the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) read that “Tiranga TV broadcasted media briefing of Pakistan Army Spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor on Pulwama terror attack between 15.41 and 16.02 hrs on 22.02.19”.
The notice further added that by airing the briefing, Tiranga TV has violated the advisory issued by the government on February 14 – following the Pulwama attack.
The aforementioned channels have been asked to submit a formal response to justify their action within seven days.
Maj Gen Ghafoor, in his February 22 presser, had warned India to “behave” and said that “Pakistan will retaliate if India tries any adventure”.
