LAHORE: Hours after the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) violation of the Line of Control (LoC), Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday announced a ban on all Indian content being aired in Pakistan.

“The Pakistan Film Exhibitors Association (PFEA) has boycotted Indian content and no Indian movie is to be released in Pakistan,” he tweeted while adding that the PEMRA has also been ordered to act against ‘Made in India’ advertisements.

Placing bans on each others media industry is a step that is implied each time relations between the two neighbouring countries turn sour.

In 2016, PEMRA had imposed a complete ban on Indian content on both television and radio channels in response to a similar move by India against the Pakistani media industry.

The ban was briefly lifted by the Lahore High Court (LHC) in 2017, only for the Supreme Court (SC) to reinstate the ban on the transmission of Indian content on local television channels in the following year.
