PL&DD’s National Cattle Show & Buffalo Fair concludes

LAHORE: Punjab Livestock & Dairy Development (PL&DD) Department’s four-day National Cattle Show and Buffalo Fair concluded at the Buffalo Research Institute in Pattoki on Saturday.

Provincial Minister for Livestock Sardar Husnain Bahadar Dareshak, PL&DD Secretary Ahsan Waheed, University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha besides members of the parliament and a large number of livestock farmers, eminent professors, students as well as buffalo breeders attended the event.

The exhibition featured a cavalcade of local desi animals, in which Cholistani, Dhanni, Rojhan, Nari and Dajal cattle breeds; Nili, Ravi, Nili Ravi and Kundi buffalo breeds; Beetal, Nukri, Tedi and Nachi goat breeds; Mundri, Kajli, Thalli, Lohi and Damani sheep breeds as well as Barela and Marecha camel breeds participated.

Horse and camel dances beside beauty and milking competitions of buffaloes were also arranged which amused the attendees. Shahbaz Gujjar’s buffalo made a world record by yielding 52 kilograms of milk.

Sardar Husnain Bahadar Dareshak, on the occasion, expressed his gratitude to the participants and congratulated the management for conducting a successful event.

He also thanked the farmers and buffalo breeders who had come from all across the country. The minister was of the view that such shows coupled with fairs were arranged to encourage breeders so that they endeavour to rear the best quality animals and play their pivotal role in fulfilling the ever-increasing nutritional demands of the country.
