Medical student shot dead during police, robbers’ crossfire

KARACHI: A 22-year-old female student at a local medical college was shot dead on Friday during an exchange of fire that broke out between the police and suspected robbers in the metropolis’ North Karachi locality.

According to reports, police was chasing a gang of robbers fleeing the area after robbing a place. The robbers started firing when intercepted by police at Anda More. During the cross-fire, a passerby was hit a bullet which proved fatal as Nimrah died after reaching Jinnah Hospital.

One suspected robber identified as Riaz Malik was also killed during the ‘encounter’. Police claim that the girl was hit with a bullet fired by the robbers. However, her uncle has demanded a post-mortem and forensic exam to ascertain if the girl was killed by robbers or police.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central Arif Rao promised a thorough investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the doctor who operated upon the girl said multiple exams such as X-ray and CT scan were performed on her but they could not find the bullet that damaged the bone of her skull and caused her death.
