RAJANPUR: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday reiterated his government’s commitment to ensure indiscriminate accountability in the country, and criticised the opposition for making hue and cry over the arrest of corrupt political leaders.
Addressing the distribution ceremony of Sehat Insaf Cards here, Prime Minister Imran regretted that the previous rulers had spent public welfare funds for their personal benefits. He added that Shehbaz Sharif ruled Punjab for 10 years but he failed to establish any quality hospital where rulers and other influential people could be treated.
He said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif asks either to be sent to prison or to UK for treatment, claiming that his earlier treatment cost Rs280 million to the nation.
“I was born in a government hospital, my sisters were too. In the past, these hospitals used to provide standard healthcare,” he said.
Imran Khan said he will try his best to make Pakistan a welfare state by upholding principles of justice and humanity laid down by the State of Madina.
He directed Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid to expedite reforms in government hospitals in the province to improve health facilities so that a common person can get his treatment there.
The prime minister also distributed health cards among some of the deserving families of district Rajanpur. He said Rajanpur is the most backward area of Pakistan and his government is going to start health cards distribution to facilitate people of this area.
He said this campaign will be further expanded to other parts of Punjab. He said under the Sehat Insaf Card, a family can get medical treatment upto 7,20,000 rupees.
Earlier this month, PM Imran launched the Sehat Insaf Card in Islamabad and tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Under the Sehat Insaf Card scheme, free healthcare worth Rs720,000 will be provided annually to each deserving family.
