ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Friday ordered to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against Pakistan Television (PTV) Managing Director Arshad Khan over the transfer of a hefty amount from the state-run channel’s bank account.

The directives of the minister came after the matter was raised by the workers’ union of the PTV that Rs4.8 million have been transferred from the state television’s account under name of salaries disbursement.

The federal minister wrote a letter to the Islamabad inspector general of police asking for a thorough investigation into illegal transactions made through two cheques of Rs3.1m and Rs1.7m.

“Submit a report into the matter after a thorough investigation,” the letter penned by Fawad Chaudhry to the Islamabad IGP read.

It may be recalled that differences between Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry and Prime Minister’s Aide on Political Affairs Naeemul Haque surfaced a few days back over the Pakistan Television (PTV) MD’s performance.

It started when, Haque took to Twitter to respond to comments made by Chaudhry about MD PTV’s performance and said, “The prime minister has full confidence in the board of PTV and its management and believes PTV should be an independent organisation like BBC and the government will take all steps necessary towards that end.”
