QUETTA: The government of Balochistan on Wednesday issued flood emergency in Lasbela and other areas amid continuous rain, seeking the help of Pakistan Army and other state institutions for the rehabilitation activities.

“Help has been sought from Pakistan Army due to the worsening situation in Lasbela district amid continuous rain,” a spokesperson for the Balochistan government said in a statement to media. “Emergency has been declared in Lasbela.”

The spokesperson further said departments concerned and the district administration of Lasbela are taking part in the rehabilitation process.

Meanwhile, widespread rains were recorded in different areas of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan. The Met Office forecasts more rain during the week till Friday. The Met Office, in a press statement last week, said, “Widespread rain-thunderstorm (with few moderate to scattered heavyfalls) is expected in Balochistan, while at scattered places in Sindh on Tuesday (evening) to Thursday. While in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir till Friday.”

A bridge linking the RCD Highway collapsed on Wednesday due to high water level which suspended the road link between Quetta and Karachi. A long queue of vehicles is stuck in a traffic jam because of the problem.

The flood water has also several entered residential areas.
