ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday dismissed an election petition against Federal Minister Zubaida Jalal.

The petition, filed by Jalal’s rival candidate, Jan Muhammad Dashti, had alleged that the federal minister was involved in rigging at 47 polling stations in the NA-271 constituency during the 2018 general elections.

Taking up for hearing the petition Wednesday, Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked that Dashti had been defeated by a margin of 20,000 votes.

“You had alleged that rigging was carried out at 47 polling stations but the witnesses were presented only in respect of nine polling stations. They also did not provide particular information,” he said.

Justice Gulzar Ahmad noted that the election tribunal had also rejected the petition, following which the petition was dismissed.
