ISLAMABAD: Amid the climate change threats, chief meteorologist of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Khalid Malik on Wednesday said Malakand, Hazara, Murree, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir divisions have received 22.5 inches of snow this winter.
“This year, comparatively, 50 per cent more snow has been recorded,” Malik said.
“By the end of March, as much as 50 inches of snow is expected to fall,” he added.
Referring to the raging threat of climate change, Malik said that “30 per cent more than usual rain has been recorded this season”.
According to PMD, heavy rainfall and snowfall is expected in the northern areas including Quetta, Malakand and Hazara. Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad. Dera Ismail Khan, Peshawar, Mardan and Islamabad are also expected to receive thunderstorms.
PMD also recorded a lowest of 3C in Khuzdar and Zhob, 4C in Kalat, 11C in Panjgor and 15C in Gwadar and Turbat.
