MQM-P announces protests against murder of worker

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) announced on Wednesday that it would hold protests on Thursday against attacks on its workers and political offices in Karachi.

The MQM-P Rabita Committee members held an emergency meeting in their Bahardurabad office late Tuesday night where the decision was made to hold a protest on February 14 in front of the Karachi Press Club.

The MQM-P leaders believe that the “recent attacks are aimed at hampering the party’s activities and spread panic among supporters in the city”.

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication and MAQM-P leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said: “The recent attacks show that terrorists’ main target is the party’s leadership and it is also a complete failure of the government.”

He further said the party has been demanding security for its leaders for the past several months, especially after the attacks in December.

“We have asked the federal and provincial governments to provide security to the party leaders who are facing security threats but no one is listening to us,” he complained.

It merits a mention that one MQM worker was shot dead while another person was critically hurt in a gun attack on a union council (UC) office in New Karachi area on February 11.
