ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has been moved for immediate suspension of National Assembly (NA) membership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and to remove him from the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The petitioner Shahid Orakzai prayed the court to ask the NA speaker that under what article of the constitution or law for the time being in force or for that matter the rule of business did he approach the prime minister outside the Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) and Shehbaz was assigned the office of chairman of the PAC unopposed. The petition said that the constitution does not entitle the speaker NA to make special consultations with the premier.
The petitioner asked to court to ask the NA speaker how the public money is being spent in millions on Shehbaz’s travelling, security and medical treatment. “There is no limit to generosity in Punjab province and the prisoners are being meted out princely treatment,” the petition stated.
The petition said that Accountability Court (AC) Lahore offered to arrange air ambulance for the appearance of Shehbaz in a pending reference, therefore, it should be asked whether any room for chartering air ambulance exists in the Ehtesab Ordinance.
Citing an English proverb “Like father, like son”, the petitioner slammed Hamza Shehbaz too besides his father Shehbaz Sharif. “Hamza Shehbaz practically functioned as the provincial chief minister for eight years and now both father and son are holding the office of the opposition leader in NA and Punjab Assembly,” the petition stated.
