National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser on Sunday abolished Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif’s membership for three standing committees upon his request.

The leader of the opposition has been detached from standing committees on law and justice, information and broadcasting and Kashmir affairs.

It is worth mentioning here that Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on February 7 said that the federal cabinet had demanded PML-N president’s resignation as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Addressing a press conference, Fawad had said that Shehbaz is wanted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in cases, therefore, he must resign on moral grounds. He said that the Shehbaz was trying to protect people who are wanted by NAB in different cases.

Earlier on Sunday, PML-N leader Khawaja Asif had said that Shehbaz Sharif is entitled to hold the PAC chairmanship as he is the leader of the opposition. Asif said that removing Shehbaz from PAC chairmanship would only make matters worse.
