Omni Group Chief Financial Officer Aslam Masood on Saturday was shifted from jail to Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology after he complained of chest pain.
Masood, who was arrested by the FIA on Friday for his alleged involvement in the Sindh money laundering case, has yet to be produced before a court to obtain transit remand to shift him to Karachi for investigation.
He has been accused of laundering Rs54 billion through 107 fake accounts.
It is pertinent to mention here that Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Sindh government submitted petitions to the Supreme Court (SC) within the same day, seeking the case’s investigation to be shifted to Karachi.
The case was initially registered in 2015 against former Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSE) chairman Hussain Lawai, who is widely believed to be close to former president Zardari.
In July, Lawai was arrested in connection with the probe along with Anwar Majeed, and his son, Abdul Ghani Majeed, were also arrested by the FIA. Lawai, Majeed and his son remain under custody for interrogation.
Investigations so far have revealed that several ‘benaami’ accounts at some private banks were opened in 2013, 2014 and 2015 from where transactions worth billions of rupees were made.
The amount, according to the FIA, is said to be black money gathered from various kickbacks, commissions and bribes.
