Adding to the long list of child abuse in Pakistani educational institutions, a video of a male teacher Imtiaz violently hitting a child, seemingly 15 times younger than him, has gone viral on social media.
In the video, Imtiaz who teaches at a local academy in Lahore’s Shad Bagh can be seen unnecessarily exerting his authority and abusing his physical power on the little girl for not memorising her lesson.
The girl falls after taking a few hits but Imtiaz yells at her and picks her up only to continue violating her.
Every child makes mistakes and learns at his or her own pace. However, this basic logic is beyond the comprehension of a majority of Pakistani teachers as they are not only incompetent but also undereducated themselves.
It is not unusual for Pakistani children to not reach their potential in school and much of it can be attributed to the toxic culture that prevails without shame in educational institutions. In addition, there is no awareness of how such incidents shape and scar developing minds forever.
However, the parents of the abused girl forgave the man stating that a “minor” beating was irrelevant, according to reports by local media.
It is pertinent to mention here that our country lacks behind in more ways than one and one of the primary reason behind this are loopholes in the education system.
