Amjad Dawar, the son of Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar, whose body was recovered from Afghanistan in November, has expressed concern that three months have passed, but there has been no action to investigate the incident and prosecute the murderers.

Dawar took to Twitter and wrote that his family has rejected the “so-called” JIT formed to probe into his father’s murder. He lamented that the government had promised to form a parliamentary commission comprising three opposition members and two government representatives within three days, but to no avail.

“[In the] past three months, we met every official from provincial to federal level but [they] all just provided us with assurances,” he wrote.

Earlier in December, a seven-member JIT was constituted to probe the abduction and murder of Dawar, a notification issued by the chief commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) said at the time.

Later, the head of the JIT, Islamabad SP Investigation Gulfam Nasir, was replaced by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Raja, according to reports.

The government had also announced that it would set up a five-member parliamentary commission comprising two lawmakers from the treasury benches and three from opposition to investigate the abduction followed by murder.

SP Dawar, who was the chief of Peshawar police’s rural circle, was kidnapped in the G-10/4 area of Islamabad on October 26, and his body was found in a remote area of the Afghan province of Nangarhar.

According to the notification, one member each from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Military Intelligence (MI) was to be included in the JIT besides police officials.

“The joint investigation team shall complete the investigation within the stipulated time period as laid down in the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997,” read the notification.
