–Info minister praises Aleem Khan for setting ‘brilliant tradition’ by resigning after NAB arrest
–Tells Shehbaz to resign as PAC head amid corruption probe
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday said nobody would get an NRO in the government of Imran Khan and it should be clear that neither there would be any deal nor relaxation as all cases of corruption against individuals would be taken to their logical conclusion.
In a statement, the info minister said that the senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership met earlier in the day under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan. The leadership reviewed the political situation and noticed that the talk surrounding a possible NRO was still going on, he said.
“For 22 years, Imran Khan and PTI waged a war against corruption and it was not a personal battle but for the people of Pakistan. To say that somebody would get NRO, it was not possible,” he added.
He said the senior leadership of PTI expressed its severe reservations regarding the role of Shehbaz Sharif in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
“The way Shehbaz Sharif immediately summoned National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief after assuming the chairmanship of PAC and pressure was exerted on it, it became clear that Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were using PAC as a shield against their cases of corruption which was unacceptable,” he observed.
Fawad claimed that the demand to make Khawaja Saad Rafique a part of the PAC was being made “so that he could also get that shield.”
“It is clear that PAC was being used as a shield in the cases of corruption,” he added.
‘BRILLIANT TRADITION’:
He further said when NAB arrested Aleem Khan, he immediately resigned from his post which proved the difference in the political culture of PTI and other political parties.
“By tendering his resignation, Aleem Khan had begun a brilliant tradition. Aleem Khan knew he had to face the cases of NAB without using his office,” the minister said.
“Shehbaz Sharif should have the same thinking and we demand that Shehbaz should also step down from the post of PAC chairman and face the cases of corruption,” he said. “Accountability is a need of the country and for that, we stand behind the institutions of accountability. However, it should not look that it is a balancing act. It should be apparent that justice is being done with transparency and merit.”
