ISLAMABAD: Additional Attorney General (AAG) Tariq Khokar on Wednesday informed the Supreme Court (SC) that the Interior Ministry has decided to form a new joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the Parveen Rehman murder case.
Rehman, who was the director of the Orangi Pilot Project (OPP), was gunned down by four men in a targeted attack near the Banaras fly-over in Orangi Town in March 2013. She was a vocal activist working against land and water mafia in the city.
A three-member bench of the SC presided over by Justice Azmat Saeed took up for hearing Parveen Rehman murder case Wednesday where the notification to form the new JIT was also presented in the court.
As the hearing went underway, Khokar informed the court that the new JIT, comprising of five members will work under Director General Federal Investigation Agency (DG FIA) Mazhar-ul-Haq.
“Threats received by project members are being traced,” he said, adding that “the FIA report was received over a phone call but reports of other institutions are awaited”.
Justice Saeed ordered to submit the other reports timely in court and said, “The court will keep a check on the JIT’s performance.”
Hearing of the case was adjourned for three weeks.
