Family of Malik Riaz has dismissed media reports claiming that the property tycoon suffers from cancer, adding that he went to London for treatment.
In a statement to a local media, the family said, “Malik Riaz went to London for medical treatment but he doesn’t suffer from cancer.”
“Media should not air rumours about his health,” they advised.
Meanwhile, Riaz has requested the Supreme Court to change the date of a contempt case against him.
Riaz’s lawyer filed an adjournment petition with the top court on Wednesday, asking for the hearing to be held after 12 weeks.
According to the petition, Riaz is unwell and seeks time for his treatment in London. The doctors will operate him and it will take at least eight weeks to recover, the petition adds.
The Supreme Court is expected to take up the contempt case against him on February 7.
Malik Riaz is facing contempt charges for accusing former chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and his son Dr Arsalan Iftikhar of financial wrongdoings during a press conference in 2012.
