PM orders action against vandalists of Hindu temple

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Tuesday ordered the government of Sindh to take swift and strict action against the vandalists involved in the defiling and vandalising of a Hindu temple situated in Kumb, a town in Khairpur district.

Taking to micro-blogging social media platform Twitter, the PM criticised the act and termed it against the teachings of the holy Quran.

“The govt of Sindh must take swift and decisive action against the perpetrators. This is against the teachings of the Quran,” he tweeted.

Earlier on Monday, images of the destruction began circulating on social media. In the images, the temple was seen attacked with holy scriptures and statues housed within it had been desecrated.

According to a report by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) released last year, banned outfits continue to target minorities in Pakistan.

The report also states that the government of Pakistan “failed to protect these groups adequately, and it perpetrated systematic, ongoing, egregious religious freedom violations”.

Last year, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) said that the nation has failed to make progress on a myriad of issues, ranging from forced disappearances to women’s rights and protection of religious minorities.
