ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: Like other parts of the country, Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed here on Tuesday with the pledge to continue support for the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
Various government departments including education, health, the Social Welfare Arts Council (SWAC) and others organised seminars and took out rallies to express solidarity with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
Addressing a ceremony at Faizabad, where a human hand chain was formed by students, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Umer Jhangir saluted to the commitment and will of the Kashmiri people.
The DC also paid tributes to veteran Kashmiri activists who have braved Indian pressures and arrests on many occasions to continue the struggle for freedom with utmost courage.
Meanwhile, a tableau and Kashmiri songs competition among students was organised by the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC).
A photo exhibition to create awareness of human rights violations in occupied Kashmir was also held at the RAC.
Banners and portraits of heroes of Kashmir struggle were also displayed by different government and private organisations at all city roads to mark the day.
Separately, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Salahuddin Khan Mehsood had directed police officers to make foolproof security arrangements on Kashmir Solidarity Day throughout the province of KP.
In a circular issued to Regional Police Officers (RPO) and Districts Police Officers (DPO) in Peshawar, he had ordered sufficient police contingents to be deployed to thwart any untoward incident.
Salahuddin Khan Mehsood also directed to scan all the routes where rallies were to be taken out with the help of a Bomb Disposal Unit.
