KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday disposed of a petition seeking disqualification of Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda.

The decision was announced after the petitioner withdrew his plea.

A two-member bench of the SHC heard the petition filed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qadir Khan Mandokhail seeking minister’s disqualification.

On Monday, the petitioner pleaded for withdrawal of his petition, saying he will file his same petition in the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan.

On previous hearings, the petitioner had stated that Faisal Vawda, who is an elected Member of National Assembly (MNA), does not fulfil the mandatory requirements of Article 62 of the Constitution for being an eligible candidate of the parliament, requesting that he may be disqualified.

The petitioner had said that the respondent had failed to provide details of his mortgage loan obtained from the British and Malaysian banks, concealed the description of his moveable properties and failed to provide documentary evidence.

Mandokhel had claimed that Vawda was still a US national and that he had not surrendered his nationality. The petitioner contended that his objection was not properly considered by the returning officer when he had raised it at the time the nomination papers were filed.

He had also claimed that the PTI candidate, despite possessing assets worth over Rs130 million, did not pay a single penny tax and concealed his finances from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
