Earthquake jolts felt in several cities across country

ISLAMABAD: Multiple parts of the country, including the federal capital Islamabad and Lahore, on Saturday endured earthquake tremors.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad, the earthquake took place at a depth of 208 kilometres in the Hindu Kush Region in Afghanistan at a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale.

The tremors were also felt in Sargodha, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Mianwali, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Nowshera, Swat and adjoining regions.

Earlier, earthquake tremors were felt in Karachi. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 2.9 on the Richter scale and its epicentre was 15 kilometres north of the port city.

The tremors were felt in Landhi, Korangi and surrounding areas.
