Feasibility of Lai Expressway to be finalised by March: Rasheed

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said on Friday that the feasibility of the Lai Expressway would be finalised by March this year.

Speaking after inaugurating a clean and green campaign at the Rawalpindi Railway Station, he said the expressway would change the fate of the twin cities’ people.

He said the signal free expressway would start from Sowan Bridge up to Peshawar Road.

The minister announced that salaries of Railways Police would be brought at par with Punjab Police and he would travel by train to various destinations across the country to have firsthand information about the functioning of these stations as well as the problems being faced by the passengers.

He said Pakistan Railways (PR) had set up a number of complaint centres and would introduce a tracking system in a few days to enable passengers to know the exact location of the train.

Rasheed further said that efforts were being made to make PR a profitable entity.

Earlier, the minister launched a month-long special drive for “Clean Green and Courteous Railways”.

Addressing the launching ceremony, the minister said he would himself oversee the campaign to ensure its success across the country.

He said tree plantation will also be ensured along the railway tracks to advance prime minister’s vision of a “Clean and Green Pakistan”.

He claimed that he will transform the national railways into an “efficient, modern and profit earning public service utility” and the ticketing system will be further improved showing zero tolerance towards ticketless travelers.
