Pakistani chef Fatima Ali laid to rest

LAHORE: Fatima Ali, a renowned chef and daughter of former attorney general Ashtar Ausaf Ali, was laid to rest at the Bagh-e-Rehmat graveyard near Bhatta Chowk, DHA, here on Friday evening.

Earlier, her funeral prayers were held at Gulberg.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khosa, former CJP Mian Saqib Nisar, Supreme Court and Lahore High Court judges, lawyers and a large number of people from different walks of life attended her funeral prayers.

Fatima Ali, who had touched the hearts of people around the globe with her heartbreaking story of suffering from terminal cancer, passed away last Friday.

She was diagnosed with cancer in October 2018 after initially being declared cancer-free.

On January 12, she had shared a devastating update on her health. “I know it’s been ages since I posted and most may have figured out why. I’m sick and unfortunately, I’m getting sicker,” she wrote while sharing a picture of herself on Instagram.

The 29-year-old had been fighting against Ewing’s sarcoma disease.

Tributes for her poured in from different quarters.

“I was lucky to share this visit with Fatima. I wish I could have shared more. Sending so much love to her family. I hope they find comfort in knowing how much light she brought to the world,” said Ellen DeGeneres.

Bravo’s Top Chef also released a statement over Fatima’s death.

“We are deeply saddened to hear the news that Fatima Ali lost her courageous battle with cancer. Our thoughts are with her family at this time. People not only fell in love with her cooking, but fell in love with her personality and heart.”
