KARACHI: While informing about the ongoing activities against corrupt elements to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sindh’s anti-corruption authorities have told that there are at least 45 inquiries going on, Pakistan Today has learnt.
The NAB authorities had asked for a detailed briefing on the corruption cases by the provincial watchdog so that stern action could be initiated against the corrupt elements.
In its reply, the Sindh’s anti-corruption authorities forwarded a detailed briefing for the accountability watchdog’s authorities, informing that there are more than 43 inquiries involving millions of rupees that are currently open.
Details of a few officials who are being investigated include Sindh Education Management Information System Dadu District Officer Imdad Lashari, Hyderabad Assistant Engineer Highways Sub-Division Road Inspector Qurban Ali Waghio, New Karachi district Central Karachi AC Arshad Warsi, Hyderabad Kotri Barrage Region Irrigation Department Chief Engineer for the misuse of authority and illegal allotting of KB Feeder land of to others after receiving heavy bribe, Thatta Education Works Executive Engineer regarding illegalities in construction of Thatta Cultural Complex, Deh Safooran Assistant Commissioner (AC) Lala Iqbal and other officers of the Sindh Revenue Department for fraud in lands, Farhan Shahzad for awarding road construction work of Kunri town market to a corrupt contractor while only five per cent work with substandard material was done against the release Rs50 million, and Karachi Directorate of Tourist Services Legal Assistant Mukhtiar Ali Talpur for accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.
Further, multiple government officials being investigated for miscellaneous corruption include Mirpurkhas Town Municipal Administration (TMA) officers for corruption and embezzlement of funds of TMA, officers of Roads Department Hala, district Matiari regarding the construction of a road from Bhanoth to Hala in which substandard material was used for 11 km, officers of Naval Heights Nurses Examination Board for fake admissions, blackmailing female students, passing students who remain absent throughout the year and manipulating results for bribes, officers of the Excise and Taxation Department for awarding motorcycle and motorcar number plates violating SPRRA Rules causing losses of over Rs30 million, and officers of Government Horticulture Research Institute Mirpurkhas for not utilising Rs10 million budget.
Other individuals who are facing inquiries include Jamshoro Revenue and Land Acquisition Officer Sohail Ahmed Bachani for illegal payment of Rs84 million to a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Malik Asad Sikandar, Fazal Mangi from the XEN Highways Division, Karachi Works and Services Department for the illegal award of a contract to Noor Construction without following SPRRA Rules, Sindh PPHI Director Naseemud Din Miranifor for his involvement in corruption, commissions and receiving bribes against the purchase of equipment etc for PPHI units throughout Sindh as well as Sindh Education and Literacy Department Section Officer Endowment Fareed Mughal and Additional Secretary Endowment Waheed Ahmed Sheikh for the misuse of authority in endowment funds by refusing needy students and preferring students with strong backgrounds.
