GUJRANWALA: The CCTV footage of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Kashif Meher and his guard surfaced on Thursday.
The two were killed in a firing incident on Wednesday.
In the video, three attackers can be seen fleeing the site of the incident on a white-coloured vehicle after opening fire on the PML-Q leader.
According to a preliminary report submitted by Gujranwala CPO Dr Moeen Masood, Kashif was present at his residence with his security guard Arshad when the incident occurred.
Suspected murderer Amir Maher and his accomplices entered the home and opened fire at them and fled immediately. Gunman Arshad died on the spot due to severe injuries whereas Mehar got critically injured.
The PML-Q leader was rushed to Civil Hospital Gujranwala where doctors referred him to General Hospital Lahore. He succumbed to his wounds on the way.
Peoples Colony SDPO and Saddar SHO reached the spot immediately. The PFSA unit gathered the evidence from the crime scene whereas police have started legal proceedings against the culprits.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar also took notice of the murder and has sought a report from the police authorities. The accused should be arrested and legal action be initiated against them immediately, CM Buzdar said.
Mehar had recently left the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and joined the PML-Q. He was released from jail two years ago in the murder charges of PPP City president Khalid Humayun.
Meanwhile, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Amjad Javed Saleemi has also taken notice of the assassination and sought a detailed report.
