Special medical board examines Nawaz Sharif

–Tallal Chaudhry says cannot trust Punjab government

LAHORE: A special medical board which was constituted for overseeing former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s health conducted his detailed examination at Kot Lakhpat Jail on Wednesday.

The board, which was formed on January 25 by the Punjab government, comprises cardiac experts from Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC), Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) and Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC).

During the examination, the panel conducted blood work and heard the former premier’s complains regarding his cardiac illness. The Punjab Medical Board will now determine the course of further treatment after receiving recommendations from the panel.

Nawaz is currently serving seven-year imprisonment at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail after he was convicted by an accountability court in the Al Aziza corruption reference case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

TALLAL SAYS CANNOT TRUST PUNJAB GOVT:

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former state minister for interior Tallal Chaudhry said that Punjab government cannot be trusted in this matter as the reports of the previous board were rejected and the existing medical board comprises “junior doctors” despite the availability of expert cardiologists.

Speaking to a private TV channel, he said that Nawaz’s personal physician was not allowed to meet him, therefore, it would not be wise to expect humanitarian treatment from the incumbent Punjab government.

Responding to a question, he said that the party was hopeful that Islamabad High Court (IHC) would administer justice to them. “Legal experts have examined the case and have concluded that Nawaz cannot be convicted on any grounds,” he added.

To another question, he said that even Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khosa had noted that Nawaz did not misuse the relief granted to him and instead of attending to his ailing wife, he faced the courts.
