Pakistan’s maiden snooker super league in June

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to popularise snooker in the country, Pakistan Snooker and Billiard Association (PBSA) will hold its maiden Pakistan Jubilee Snooker Super League in June this year.

“Eight to ten teams, involving foreign cueists will feature in the eight-day event, which will take place in Karachi in June,” Chairman PBSA Alamgir A. Shaikh told APP on Wednesday.

He said that cueists from Thailand, Singapore, Iran, India, UAE, Afghanistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Wales, and China were showing interests to chip in the league.

“It will be our effort that top cueists from these countries take part in the event.

Each team will be joined by at least one foreign player,” he said.

Alamgir said that it had not been decided as on what format the league would be played but added that it would be a unique event wherein Pakistan’s promising cueists would learn a lot and get the opportunity to earn a name.

“Snooker is getting popular in the country with each passing day as youngsters are taking a keen interest in it. I’m sure this event will further popularize this game in the country,” he added.

He said that around 12 to 13 million rupees would be spent on the successful holding of the event adding, “This amount also includes the prize money.”
