Chinese consulate attack facilitator arrested in Sharjah


Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) DIG Abdullah Sheikh on Tuesday said that the main facilitator of the Chinese consulate attack in Karachi has been arrested from Sharjah.

He said that the facilitator had connections in foreign countries and had been arrested on CTD’s identification. The facilitator received Rs0.9 million for the attack which he then distributed to the attackers, he added. The official also said that the facilitator was present in Karachi at the time of the attack.

Security forces foiled an attack on the Chinese consulate located in the Clifton neighbourhood of Karachi on November 23. Security personnel killed the attackers, recovering suicide jackets and ammunition. Two policemen were martyred in the attack, while staff at the consulate was unhurt.

Earlier this month, Karachi Additional IG Dr Amir Shaikh had said that India and its Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) members were involved in the attack along with terrorists belonging to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Shaikh had revealed that the attack had been planned in Afghanistan and the purpose was to sabotage the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
