SUKKUR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Syed Khursheed Shah on Sunday said that the Parliament cannot function if production orders for Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif are cancelled.
Earlier this week, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif had warned that the opposition members would not let Prime Minister Imran Khan enter parliament if the government restrains National Assembly Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif from attending the sessions.
It merits a mention that PM’s Special Assistant Naeemul Haque’s had said that “if Shehbaz wants to come to NA to abuse the PM and encourage his chamchas to do the same then he should know that the production order is not meant for this. He must make a commitment to abide by the decisions of the ethics committee and the rules of business”.
“It is our collective responsibility to take decisions which will bring improvement. If the government wants accountability, it should also hold its ministers accountable,” Khursheed Shah said while addressing media in Sukkur.
“Parliament cannot function without an opposition leader,” he added.
“Ministers will not be able to come to the Parliament. We will also not come and Parliament won’t function,” he said in response to a question regarding the cancellation of production orders for Shehbaz.
He added that cancellation of the production order would imply that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government does not wish to run the House.
“No house or factory runs on loans. Pakistan only received money as a deposit and we cannot even touch the money,” Shah said in reference to a question regarding the loans the incumbent government has taken from other countries.
