Frozen desserts of Hico, Jalal Sons declared substandard

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has released a laboratory test report of famous frozen desserts and ice cream companies in which it was revealed that Hico and Jalal Sons fail to meet the quality standards.

According to a report which was released on Sunday, eight samples of Jalal Sons and seven samples of Hico Ice Cream failed to meet the standards prescribed in the Punjab Pure Food Regulations of 2018 during a laboratory test.

Following the directions of the PFA DG Captain (r) Muhammad Usman, food safety teams carried out an operation on different outlets and shops to remove the stock of said companies from the market. During the operation, the authority removed more than 1,500 litres of ice cream which was put on stalls for sale.

Usman said that the PFA would not allow anyone to continue production of substandard food products until bringing reforms as per the directions of provincial food regulatory body. He said that the PFA is paying surprise visits to different factories besides conducting laboratory tests of ice cream and frozen desserts products.

He informed that the PFA has provided complete guidelines to companies regarding reforms. The authority is taking samples of ice cream and desserts products as per its annual inspection schedule for 2019, he added.

The PFA DG further said that people can report a complaint on PFA’s Facebook Page and Toll-Free number 0800-80500.

All the information received will be kept confidential to protect the privacy of informers, he concluded.
