One killed as bus overturns in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: At least one person died while 15 others sustained injuries when a bus turned turtle after crashing into a footpath in the Chanda Qila area of the city Saturday.

Rescue officials said the accident occurred when a bus carrying Umrah pilgrims was en route to Sialkot airport from Jaranwala.

The casualties were shifted to a nearby medical facility. Their identities couldn’t be ascertained immediately.

Meanwhile, the motorway police to avoid any mishaps closed various sections of highways in plains of Punjab where dense fog reduced visibility.

According to a spokesperson, the M-2 Motorway from Lahore to Sheikhupura and M-4 from Multan to Khanewal have been closed for traffic due to dense fog. Fog has also affected visibility on the motorways in Sahiwal, Mian Channu and Gojra.

Travellers have been advised to not travel unnecessarily and use fog lights. They have further been instructed to contact the motorway police at 130 in order to seek updates on foggy conditions.
