If Bani Gala can be regularised, so can buildings in Karachi: Farooq Sattar

KARACHI: Senior politician Farooq Sattar on Saturday responded to Supreme Court’s order to raze all encroachments across the city and said if Bani Gali can be regularised then buildings in Karachi as well.

While talking to the media, Sattar said, “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf used to boast before the elections that they had an economic plan ready. If they wanted to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), why didn’t they go in August?”

“Delay in funding from countries led to a delay in investment. Now traders are being threatened with crocodile tears,” he further said, adding that the government is still not sure about the IMF.

While talking about the operation against illegal encroachments in the city, Sattar said, “Karachi mayor is busy in destruction,” adding that “10,000 houses and shops have been razed and now the court has given an order that everything should be demolished”.

He further said, “I welcome Saeed Ghani’s statement regarding his resignation than have buildings be demolished. We are waiting for Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Waseem Akhtar to say the same.”

“If Bani Gala can be regularised then others buildings can be as well,” Sattar added.

On January 22, the Supreme Court ordered all encroachments across the metropolis to be razed immediately.

“The buildings which are not part of the master plan should be demolished. The city should be restored to how it was 40 years ago. No matter how many buildings there are, they should be demolished,” Justice Gulzar Ahmed had said.
