Govt decides to put Malik Riaz on ECL: reports

The federal government gave an approval to place the name of property tycoon Malik Riaz on Exit Control List (ECL), media reports said Friday.

According to reports, Riaz’s name has been placed on the no-fly list and he will not be allowed to leave the country until his name is cleared in numerous corruption cases.

Real estate tycoon Malik Riaz is among the suspects in the fake bank accounts and money laundering case which has been referred to the NAB’s Rawalpindi office on the Supreme Court’s order.

Earlier in the day, an anti-corruption court extended the interim bail of Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz and seven others till February 22 in a case of alleged illegal occupation of state land.

Anti-corruption court judge Bahadur Ali Khan conducted the proceedings of the case wherein Malik Riaz and others accused appeared.

Advocates Zahid Hussain Bukhari and Muhammad Azhar Siddique appeared on behalf of Malik Riaz and others and submitted that a committee had been formed to resolve the issue amicably and negotiation were underway in this regard.

They pleaded to extend the interim bail of their clients.

At this, the court adjourned the matter till February 22 and extended the interim bail of all the accused.

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment had registered a case against Malik Riaz and others for illegally occupying 47 kanals of land of the Auqaf Department for the development of Bahria Orchard Housing Scheme in Lahore.

Moreover, the government has also given an approval to remove the names of Syed Zulfiqar Bukhari, special assistant to the prime minister on overseas Pakistanis and human resource development, Liaqat Jatoi and Taji Khokhar from the ECL.
